Fountain Garden

A small paradise for city residents, guests, and dogs

Behind my small, 1942 Colonial house, this back yard becomes another world with understory trees enclosing the space and offering vistas out into the neighborhood’s dramatic oak canopy. French doors from the dining rom connect the house with the garden in a simple move that transforms the interior, inviting guests out onto the terrace.

Curved forms repeat in the steps down to the lawn – the round pool, the oval lawn, and the bowed terrace edge. A few steps from the kitchen, pots on the terrace offer an edible landscape of tomatoes, eggplant, and herbs. Planned with paths for running and places to dig, the garden is a haven for the Terrier who lives here.
