Tofte cabin

Starting as a 1947 remnant of a less lavish time when going “up north” was a simpler and more rustic adventure, this small cabin perched on a rock ledge overlooking Lake Superior was fully renovated, re-imagined, and realized as a model for net zero energy, cold-climate design. A real first of its kind, the project was recognized with a national AIA top-ten green building award.

An elaborate record of the impetus for the design and its execution was created using Adobe’s Flash software. The interactive story told here won a graphic design award, and remains remarkably functional and engaging years later. (Unfortunately, this will not play on iPhones or iPads, but will on Mac and PC desktops and mobile devices with the flash player installed.)
